Haldia Mela-2016 : Showcasing Industries in Haldia & its Culture


Haldia Mela-2016 or Haldia Fair-2016 is a joint initiative of Haldia Development Authority (HDA) and Haldia Municipality which was celebrated with great pomp and show from 16th January 2016 to 24th January 2016 at Satish Samanta Trade Centre, Sanhati Maidan, Ranichak,Haldia in the district of Purba Medinipur, West Bengal.



The following are the events which was seen during the Haldia Mela-2016:

  1. Trade Fair where different types of industries in and within the vicinity of Haldia town participate and display their products and services.
  2. Seminar
  3. Agriculture and Flower Exhibition
  4. Bird Fair
  5. Book Fair
  6. Children Fair
  7. Magic Show
  8. Puppet Show
  9. Light Music & Cultural Program and  invitation to cinema celebrities
  10. Other Variety Programmes

About Haldia & Glimpse of Haldi River

About Haldia

Haldia, founded in 1959 is a city and a municipality in the district of Purba Medinipur in the Indian state of West Bengal; located approximately 96 km south of Kolkata, at 22.030 N 88.060 E and at the confluence of the Hooghly (one of the distributaries of the Ganges) and the Haldi river in Purba Medinipur District of West Bengal 

Haldia is in the process of being transformed into the most coveted industrial destination in eastern India, and also the “gateway to south-east Asia.” In order to achieve and sustain this position, Haldia Development Authority (HDA), the nodal development agency of the region has been working towards development to world-class infrastructure facilities.


Haldia has around 400 industrial units, giving employment to around 12000 persons. Some of the industries which are contributing to socio-economic development of Haldia region are as mentioned below:

Haldia is also a base of Indian Coast Guard. There are around six hovercraft's belonging to the Indian Coast Guard to safeguard and protect the Eastern Indian coastal regions.

With regard to school facilities at Haldia Township, with English language as medium of teaching , there are around   06 numbers of schools which has taken the responsibility of providing quality education to children. They are:
